Modern therapies for multiple sclerosis

Modern therapies for multiple sclerosisMS research has made immense progress in the last decade. Modern therapy systems offer MS patients a means of delaying the progression and course of their disease. In principle, a distinction is made between therapy for episodes and long-term treatment (basic therapy) which influences and decelerates the course of the disease.

Treatment of symptoms
Treatment of episodes with corticosteroids - anti-inflammatory shock wave therapy.

Long-term therapy
Long-term treatment with immunomodulating substances as "first-line therapy" (interferon beta or glatiramer acetate) to delay the natural course of the disease reduce the numbers and intensity of episodes. Further medications (natalizumab, mitoxantron) are available when the patient does not respond to immunomodulating drugs.
